About Me

Samuel Torres Mechanical Engineer

My Academic Work

A significant highlight in my academic journey is the successful culmination of a pivotal robotic capstone project at Northern Arizona University, a testament to my proficiency and leadership within a team-oriented environment. In this endeavor, I assumed the role of CAD Supervisor, overseeing a team of five members and actively contributing to the design and development of various components, most notably the extension links of the robotic arm.

My responsibilities as the CAD Supervisor not only required technical expertise but also emphasized effective collaboration and communication within the team. This experience underscored the importance of fostering a positive and productive team dynamic, a lesson that has since proven invaluable in my professional pursuits.

The design and implementation of the extension links were integral to the project's success, showcasing my proficiency in CAD and engineering principles. This hands-on involvement afforded me the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, deepening my understanding of the subject matter and refining my problem-solving skills.

For a more comprehensive overview of the specifics of our capstone project, I invite you to explore our capstone website, where detailed information about the project's scope, methodology, and outcomes is available.

This capstone experience has significantly enriched my academic and professional growth, providing me with a robust foundation in collaborative problem-solving, project management, and effective communication—skills that I am eager to leverage in future endeavors within the field of robotics and engineering.

My Academic Work

Another notable achievement in my academic portfolio encompasses the adept execution of a robotic capstone project at Universidad Autónoma de la Costa Grande de Guerrero, where I assumed a leadership role overseeing a team of six members. This endeavor culminated in a comprehensive and successful final presentation before the esteemed school president.

The objective of the project was to address a practical concern faced by local fish farmers, namely the need for a more efficient and convenient method of feeding their fish. The innovative solution we developed encompasses an autonomous feeding system that alleviates the necessity for frequent visits to the ponds. Beyond its autonomous capabilities, the system boasts a user-friendly manual mode, providing flexibility to users based on their preferences and requirements.

My leadership role in steering the team through the intricacies of the project underscored my ability to coordinate and motivate a diverse group towards a common goal. This experience also highlighted my proficiency in project management, strategic decision-making, and effective communication, particularly during the final presentation before the school president.

The success of this robotic capstone project not only reflects my technical prowess in robotics but also demonstrates my commitment to applying engineering solutions to address real-world challenges. This accomplishment stands as a testament to my dedication to leveraging technology for the betterment of local communities, showcasing my capacity to lead and contribute meaningfully to impactful projects.

Biography

Born in 1998 in Hood River, Oregon, I embarked on a unique educational journey that has shaped my academic and professional trajectory. Shortly after my birth, my family relocated to Mexico, exposing me to the rich landscapes and vibrant culture of the country.

My educational experience began with homeschooling from kindergarten through middle school, setting the foundation for my independent learning and self-discipline. At the age of 16, I demonstrated my commitment to education by enrolling in a high school for adults. Simultaneously, I contributed to the family business as a handyman during the day while attending evening classes.

In 2017, I achieved admission to the Universidad Autónoma de la Costa Grande de Guerrero. Two years later, I successfully earned my Associates in Facility Maintenance, showcasing my dedication to academic excellence.

Post-graduation, I relocated to Flagstaff, Arizona, to pursue higher education at Northern Arizona University (NAU). Given my financial constraints, I strategically commenced my undergraduate journey at Coconino Community College (CCC), where I completed all my general study classes, earning an Associates of Science. This prudent decision allowed me to lay a solid academic foundation while managing financial responsibilities.

After two years at CCC, I seamlessly transitioned to NAU, culminating in the successful attainment of a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. This academic achievement reflects not only my dedication to my chosen field but also my ability to overcome challenges and navigate a non-traditional educational path.

In summary, my diverse educational background, combined with practical work experience, has equipped me with a unique skill set and a tenacious work ethic. I am poised to contribute meaningfully to any professional setting, leveraging my academic achievements and real-world experience to excel in the field of Mechanical Engineering.
